UOlivet falls in three sets at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team lost in three sets to Trine University (Ind.) in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) match tonight at Hershey Hall.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Trine defeated Olivet 25-13, 25-18, 25-18
- Location: Hershey Hall; Angola, Indiana
- Records: Olivet 5-15 overall, 0-4 MCVL; Trine 12-8 overall, 3-1 MCVL
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivet held a 5-4 lead in the first set. The Thunder rattled off five straight points to take a 9-5 lead. The Comets closed the gap to three points twice but never got any closer, as Trine went on to win the set, 25-13.
- The Thunder built an early three-point lead, 6-3, in the second set. Olivet battled back with an 8-3 run for an 11-9 lead. The Comets led by two points, 12-10, before Trine scored five consecutive points for a 15-12 advantage. Olivet used two Thunder attack errors and a kill to even the score. The Thunder responded with another 5-0 run and did not surrender the lead for the rest of the set, winning it by a 25-18 score.
- The Comets jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set. Trine chipped away at its deficit and eventually took a 10-9 lead. Olivet answered with a 3-0 spurt and held onto the lead until the Thunder went ahead 15-14. The Comets came back to level the score at 17-17. Trine ended the set on an 8-1 run for a 25-18 victory.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Payton Hastings recorded seven of the 24 Comet kills. He also had three solo blocks.
- Junior Aiden Chamblee finished with six kills, followed by sophomore Silas Martin with five.
- Freshman Jared Carter dished out 19 set assists.
- Senior Matthew Tollar tallied 14 digs.
